Seniority, domain depth and scarcity of the specialisation - in that order. A senior generalist backend engineer costs less than an engineer who has shipped production LLM pipelines with evals and cost controls, or one with deep Odoo framework experience. Time-zone overlap and engagement length also move the number. We quote against a written role brief, never before it.
Django or FastAPI - which should my Python developer use?+
FastAPI when you want typed API contracts, async I/O and a service that composes with other services. Django when you want batteries included - ORM, admin, auth, migrations - for a product with substantial CRUD and an internal back office. Both are defensible; the wrong answer is picking one because it is the only one the engineer knows.
Do your Python developers do AI and machine learning work?+
